2015 Math Competition And 20th Anniversary

We are incredibly excited to announce that our 3rd Annual Best in Class Math Competition and 20th anniversary celebration was a great success! This year, over one hundred students from Best in Class’ Washington state centers competed for the 1st place trophy.

While the excited and slightly nervous students waited for the competition to begin, family and friends had the opportunity to meet with local affiliates and sponsors. This year, our program featured booths by Benz Photography and Coding with Kids. With our sponsors and other generous donations, we raised a little over $2800 to benefit Seattle Children’s Hospital.

Our 20th anniversary celebration featured a spectacular performance by the International Lion Dance Team. We are especially grateful to our honorable guests, Lt. Governor Brad Owen and Senator Bon Hasegawa, for awakening the lions in the lion dance and for attending our special event!

Throughout the math competition, students eagerly demonstrated their impressive talents for mathematics! In order to qualify for the final round, students had to pass through two rounds of increasingly difficult written exams. The six top-scoring students from each grade level were chosen to participate in the exciting final round. Participants had to compete quickly against one another to during the final round to problem solve through difficult math problems and hit buzzers to answer the questions. Parents and friends watched in anticipation through a live broadcast as the finalists strove for quickness and accuracy.

After the final on-stage competition, the award ceremony honored the top three finalists from each grade level with trophies and the 4th, 5th, and 6th place finalists received medals. The room was full of applause and smiles as friends and family looked proudly upon the 3rd Annual Best in Class Math Competition finalists.

It was great to see so many smiling students on stage after a long day of hard work. Congratulations to everyone who participated; we know that it wasn’t easy! We would first like to thank the students for working so hard to achieve optimal performance in the competition. Finally, we would like to thank all of the parents for supporting and encouraging your Best in class students. We hope to see all of you again next year!
